My dad famously said (famous to me anyway) that he could “do any job with the right tools”. He was a self-taught man capable of a thousand abilities, an inspiration to behold. When shipping toys and gifts he often handmade for his grand kids, he even custom cut his own packaging to ensure a perfect fit!
A good friend of mine recently showed me that ice cream scoops (called “disher scoops”, who knew?) come in different sizes and can be differentiated based on the color of their handle. *mind blown* – I can hardly believe I’ve lived over sixty years on this planet and never, ever, knew this.
My study of scriptures has likewise been filled with new revelations (the last book of the Bible by the way is called Revelation, not revelations – don’t embarrass yourself as I have), aided by the myriad of tools available on the internet. In my eBooks titled “Pocket guide to … this or that”, I provide brief summaries of the book along with hyperlinks to sites showing maps, graphics, videos, 3D animations, and more. All designed to make your study of the books of the Good book, educational and even more memorable (and perhaps fun?).
Below I share the links I’ve used again and again to understand, find insights, inspiration, and find answers to questions that I would not otherwise have been able to answer on my own. Using these has made me appear far wiser than I really am, but since I have used them to help others learn, it doesn’t feel like cheating!
With this my last post (for a while), I hope you find these useful in your own continuing studies. Remember to use your growing understanding of the character of God to refine your own character as you strive toward ever increasing righteousness. Despite your best efforts, you will remain a sinner in need of the atoning gift of Jesus. Refrain from using our understanding of the truth to condemn others. As CS Lewis is quoted to have said “The Bible, read in the right spirit and with the guidance of good teachers, will bring us to Him. We must not use the Bible as a sort of encyclopedia out of which texts (isolated from their context and read without attention to the whole nature and purport of the books in which they occur) can be taken for use as weapons.”
