Nothing seems more innocent than a cooing newborn baby. All the promise of life with none of the baggage. Yet the foundation of “original sin” infects even these precious ones. Genesis 8:21 says: “every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood.” Likewise Romans 5:12 says “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—” and finally Psalm 58:3 “The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies.” So, is it true even infants are sinners?
Conclusion; True! An additional logical proof of sorts is the sad fact that infants die, and since death is the punishment for sin (Romans 6:23 –” For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”) yes, even infants need a savior.
I believe our loving Father in heaven must have made provision to save those who die before any intellectual ascension to accepting the gift of faith though grace (or even a baptism by man). Matthew 19:14 shows Jesus’ innate love for children, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” God, extending grace to those who cannot be a participant in their belief, would seem consistent with His character. So, no need for limbo, a religious tradition handed down by early church theologians in their attempt to explain God’s plans for historically frequent death of children.
