God zapping earth

Given the choice, and wanting to avoid fire and brimstone or perhaps what some misguided people, even Sunday school teachers, present as a state of perpetual nothingness, I would choose to be saved. Saved from a judgement proceeding during which I will certainly be found guilty. Old Testament prophet Hosea says of people at the time of judgement “they will say to the mountains, ‘Cover us!’ and to the hills, ‘Fall on us!’”

Children who draw on walls, dogs who tear into pillows, and criminals who rob banks all run and hide from the repercussions of their actions which they know they deserve. It never dawned on me that the person responsible for (justly) condemning me for my sins was the creator of the rules of conduct, God himself! That is who I need saved from! So, it is true that I need saved from God?

Conclusion; True! I, like those before me ask “who can save me from God?” RC Sproul summaries the situation like this; “God, in righteous wrath, stands against us in our sin. But the glory of the gospel is that the one from whom we need to be saved is the very one who saves us.”

Only God can save us from God. The Old Testament is a tome demonstrating we are unable to save ourselves, to avoid sinning, by knowing and then following the Law. We are eternally grateful that God so loved us that He saved us from His righteous punishment by exchanging His own perfection in the place of our failure.
