Road forks in two directions

Despite some religions which espouse reincarnation or a ‘state of nothingness’ as the end game, the Lord Jesus himself clarified there is no middle ground, and he spoke a lot about hell. He told us more about hell than any other prophet. It seems like we needed to hear this from someone we could not dismiss as mistaken! There are plenty of modern day, soft-soap teachings about a “separation from God” being the punishment for not believing, or perhaps a state of eternal sleep, unaware of our own demise. However, these are not in alignment with the teachings of scriptures which include passages such as Matthew 25:32, “separating goats from sheep” their fate in verse 40 confirms there is no middle ground only two destinations, “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Again, in John 5:27-29 we hear of a two-way only choice “And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.” Oh, and the writer of Hebrews (most believe was Paul) says we “die once and then face judgement” (Heb 9:27). So, is it true there are only two destinations, heaven, and hell?

Conclusion; True! Most of our modern sermons are noticeably free from discussions of sin, hell, and damnation. The expectations we have of an all-loving God keep us from tolerating the idea that punishment is even a thing. We seem to think, ‘can’t nearly every wrong be attributed to circumstances beyond the control of the person caught committing the wrong’? The common denominator of every Christian is that they are accepting that they sin and are in desperate need of help to keep from repeating a given sin and more importantly grateful that those sins have been atoned for by the creator himself.
